In-Home Behavior Support Program
Sometimes a parent's best effort to manage their child's challenging behavior and to address his or her needs is just not enough. Challenging behavior takes many forms, including noncompliance, aggression, self-injury, and emotional dysregulation, and greatly impacts a family's quality of life. Children present behavioral difficulties due to a variety of reasons: developmental or emotional difficulties; stress caused by peers; school; or family changes; and/or impulsivity and attention deficit.
Family Compass' In-Home Behavior Support Program is a service designed to reduce familial stress, ultimately bringing about positive change and stability. Assessment and intervention are conducted in the home environment. Direct observation and data collection are conducted to determine the cause of problem behaviors. Treatment involves teaching replacement/appropriate behaviors, and then working with the family to implement proactive strategies and effective consequences. Elements of the program include:
- Individualized treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each child and family
- School and daycare observation and consultation
- On-going parental guidance
- Consultation is provided by a social worker and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
In-Home Behavior Support is coordinated by Karla Fife, MSW, BCBA. Karla has experience working with children on the autistic spectrum, ADD/ADHD, emotional disabilities, social skill deficits, and mental retardation. She has provided individual therapy in home, public and nonpublic schools and residential settings. Karla also facilitates social skills groups (see Staff Page for full bio).
